The RIBA 2016 House of the Year Award

In a recent news article we extended our congratulations to the very worthy winners recognised at the 2016 RIBA President’s Medals Student Awards. The work on display gave a promising glimpse at the future of residential architecture in London, and showcased some truly magnificent talent. Once again we’d like to encourage you to go and look at not just the winning entries but all of the magnificent work which was considered.

With the above in mind, there is one other competition RIBA are hosting at the moment. The 2016 House of the Year shortlist has been announced, and we’re very proud of the fact that an example of our work has been included on it. On their 8th December 2016 episode the popular Channel 4 TV show Grand Designs revealed our Modern Mews project as one of the five selected for this prestigious award.

The recognition this project has achieved gives us a particular sense of reward for two reasons in particular. The first of these is that it was a particularly complex challenge for our team to face.

More importantly in terms of our work, though, the second reason is that it highlighted how widely accepted our belief in the importance of natural light in residential architecture really is. The Midway Mews project allowed us to take a building which was heavily reliant on artificial light and open it up to the many benefits of natural light being able to reach through it.

It might be something of a cliché to say this, but it happens to be true – we really are honoured to be placed in the company of some remarkable work from our fellow professionals by being nominated.

Whilst we admire the other work nominated for the award we can of course only speak on behalf of our project. In this respect we are delighted that our Midway Mews project has been exposed to a far wider audience via the RIBA nomination and Grand Designs TV show. We trust that it gave you some insights into the informed way in which our residential architecture can deliver for you.
