Celebrating community at the London Festival of Architecture

The London Festival of Architecture begins on June 1st and will run until the end of the month. Throughout the course of the event there will be over 200 events, installations and talks for people to enjoy. They will explore a wide array of topics, celebrating experimentation, thinking and practice in the architectural field. The 2016 programme is packed and will attract visitors from all around the world.

One topic that is covered is how architecture can be designed to suit communal needs. London is a global leader in the co-living and co-working fields, being home to a number of pioneering projects. It is fitting that community appears so prominently in the Festival.

An event not to be missed will take place on June 28th at the Trampery. A panel of architects and experts from the industry will be discussing how homes and workplaces can be adapted to meet communal needs. It will help to provide attendees with an insight into what can be done with existing spaces to improve their function and the value they offer to inhabitants.

The Constructing Communities event will be another fantastic opportunity to see how architecture can have an impact on communal living and working. The work of the 16 finalists in a RIBA competition that asked architects to submit their ideas will be on show at Peckham Levels from 2nd June until the end of the month. Visitors will have the chance to see of the designs and get an idea of how different architects view communities. The three winners will go on to build installations at RIBA headquarters. These will be on show from June 21st until 4th August.

The London Festival of Architecture is an incredible annual event that gives visitors the chance to get a much deeper insight into the thinking of architects and the work that they do. There will be opportunities to see ideas for public, commercial and residential architecture too. You can find out more about the Festival on the website, including a link to the full programme of events. This is really great for people planning their visit.
