A new construction project is taking place at one of the last undeveloped spots along the River Thames. Lombard Wharf will be built at Lombard Road in Battersea, incorporating 135 apartments and providing a new example of innovative residential architecture in London. There’s been a lot of attention on this project due to the unusual “twisted” shape the finished tower is going to have, thanks to its wraparound balconies. It’s being designed by local architects Patel Taylor, and is set to be completed in 2017. One of the most exciting things about this new tower is the fact that it will have a BREEAM Excellent Rating. A portable, compact micro-home that is 60 times cheaper than the price of an average starter home in London could be just what the rental generation are looking for. The homes are compact, coming in at 130 square feet. That is just a third of a typical carriage on a Tube train, but it still manages to pack in a combined sleeping and living space, a bathroom and a kitchenette. Continue reading
