The criteria for success in residential renovations

One of the things which makes December such a vibrant time for architects in London is the announcement of the “Don’t Move, Improve!” awards shortlist. This award, supported by both RIBA and the highly influential Dezeen magazine, celebrates architectural achievements in respect of renovating and transforming homes. Creating the space required for successful loft conversions

In years gone by a loft conversion was considered to involve little more than putting down a bit of reinforced flooring down in an attic. The intention in these cases was seldom to use it for anything more than some extra storage space. Whilst this was a perfectly understandable approach to take it is a little outdated. They have commonly been regarded in terms of their functionality alone, as they have been used extensively over the years to address housing shortages.
